Aquafleur Tangle

Here we are, day 4 of "Twenty-eight Days of Art".  I met with my friendship group today for exchanging of ideas, thoughts, and whatever else came our way.  To my surprise, we drew the Aquafleur tangle.  This one is a little different than my previous ones.  It has more of a loop at the tips and it has been shaded to give it a little more depth.

We drew trees next.  By making a series of random lines and then connecting them, you form the trees and the branches. The first one is more linear with lines for texture.  With the middle trees, I made them more mishapened with the textured lines more squiggly.   The third set of tree are a little more natural looking and are just shaded.

By no means are these trees the finished product.

Aquafleur Poppy

Today is day 3 of Twenty-eight Days of Art and I finally finished the sketch from start to finish.  Here is the drawing with watercolor added.  To be quite honest, I prefer the black and white drawing much better.  I thought next time I would try using either different colors or shades of grey.

Day 2 of "Twenty-eight Days of Art".  I've gone over the sketch in ink and filled it in with a Sakura Micron Pen.  I also added the word "Poppy".  Here's the second stage for my Zentangle Inspired Art.  The flower pedals were done with Zentangle pattern Aquafleur.  

I am going to add matte medium over the entire design.  After it has dried (24 hours) I will add watercolor to it here and there for a pop of color to enhance the design.

I am planning on making a quilt with this design, hopefully in the near future.

Zentangled Inspired Poppy

I am starting a "Twenty-eight Days of Art" for the month of February.  A friend of mind did a thirty-one days of art last year, and so this month I am giving it a try.

I chose February because there are only 28 days, which means less days to figure out what I am going to do.  I sketched a Zentangle inspired flower, which is all I am going to do today, because one I ran out of time and two I ran out of steam.  I plan on going over the pencil lines in ink and then adding watercolor. 

I am going to try and do different types of art during the month.  I know some will take longer than others to complete, but for now, it's a start.

Zentangle Quilt

I did a demo at Road to California 2014 for my new workshop on Free-Motion Zentangle Quilt, which I will be teaching at the Quilt Loft on February 15th. 

FREE-MOTION ZENTANGLE QUILTING

I am very excited to be teaching this class.  Combining Tangles and Quilting and learning to take Zentangle Designs and combine them together to make a beautiful Zentangle Inspired Quilt.  Can be made with white/black, black/white and tan/brown.  This quilt block is 15" X 15", but can be made any desired size.

I am working on a Tan and Brown Quilt inspired by the new tan tiles that came out recently.

Multi/Mixed Media Art Collection

In the Exhibit I had a few of my quilts shown here. 

Pieced Bargello background with raw edge applique.

Grapes are made from deli paper, fabric and watercolors.  Canvas background with black felt backing.

A series of gentle shapes make up this quilt.  The crescent moon is made from a yogurt top.  A few hot crystals were added.

Pismo Beach

Spent the past weekend in Pismo Beach, CA for some fun and relaxation.  

Day one we headed out to the Monarch Butterfly Grove.The butterflies look like a clump of dead leaves until you look more closely and realize they are butterflies.  As the sun hits them and they warm-up, you are better able to see the Monarchs come to life and their beautiful orange colors starts to show through.

Day two, we headed off to Hearst Castle and then off to see the Elephant Seals.  You can see two bulls fighting, either over territory or most likely a female seal.

Took some walks along the beach and even captured a seagull in flight over the water.

Found a cave.  Yes, an actual cave although it didn't go very far.

Last day before leaving, I was able to get a picture of a beautiful sunset.  I think this picture is worth more than a thousand words.
